The main conflict of this chapter is Lucy’s death and whether or not she is actually dead. There are reports of a bluefer woman abducting children and are found later with 2 small puncture marks on their necks. Also in this chapter, Johnathan sees the Count in town staring at a young woman in a carriage, the Count then proceeds to follow her. Mina seeing how distressed Johnathan looks when seeing this man makes the decision to read Jonathan’s diary, she is also told by the Prof. Van Helsing of Lucy’s death.
